Papers to collect before you complain to the insurer, IRDAI or the Insurance Ombudsman.
A general checklist does not replace your policy wording or the list your insurer gives you for your claim. Ask the insurer what it needs in your case.
| Document | What it is for | When it may be needed | Differs by insurer? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rejection or settlement letter | The reason and clause you dispute. | Always | Usually the same |
| All pages of the policy | The Ombudsman asks for a full copy. | Always | Usually the same |
| Your written complaint to the insurer and its acknowledgement | Shows you complained to the insurer first. | Always | Usually the same |
| Insurer's reply, or proof that 30 days passed without one | Needed before going to the Ombudsman. | Ombudsman complaint | Usually the same |
| Policies for the last 48 months | Shows continuous cover. | Rejections for a pre-existing disease or waiting period | Usually the same |
| Claim documents and all other letters | The full record of the case. | Always | Usually the same |
