Indian cricket stars Smriti Mandhana and Ishan Kishan made a joint appearance on the famous Indian television quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) in the latest episode aired on Monday, December 25.
Smriti Mandhana is the vice-captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, while Ishan Kishan is a regular member of the national men’s cricket team, representing in all formats. Together they started the grand finale week of KBC on Christmas.
Smriti Mandhana and Ishan Kishan demonstrated their quiz skills effectively and won the prize of ₹12.5 lakh. Ishaan decided to exit the game on the 13th question of 25 lakhs as he did not have the answer as all three of his lifelines were exhausted by that time.
The 12th successful question, worth ₹12,50,000, revolved around cricket. The question asked was: Which Indian cricketer made his debut in which Test match along with Sachin Tendulkar‘s first international century?
The options available were: Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Sourav Ganguly and Javagal Srinath as substitutes.
Initially, Smriti and Ishaan sought help by calling a friend, who suggested that it could be Javagal Srinath.
Despite the advice, they were not completely sure and opted to use their last lifeline, giving them another chance if their first answer was wrong. His initial choice of Srinath proved wrong. However, in his second attempt, he identified the correct answer as Anil Kumble.
Ishan Kishan, after experiencing mental fatigue, left South Africa and returned to India, consequently withdrawing from the two-match Test series.
Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana had participated in the test match against Australia in Mumbai earlier this week. India achieved a historic win and achieved their first win against Australia in women’s Test cricket. Mandhana contributed significantly to India’s success by scoring 74 and 38 not out with the bat in the match. Furthermore, he scored the winning runs during the second innings on the final day of the match.
“Although it appeared to be a track favoring spin, batting wasn’t as challenging as expected,” remarked Smriti Mandhana following the victory against Australia.
After the conclusion of the Test match against Australia on 24 December, Smriti Mandhana shared her thoughts on the win and the pitch, saying:
“I thought it was not too challenging. Despite the surface being in favor of spin, the batting was not as tough as expected. The partnership between Deepti and Pooja in the first innings was important. For me, that was a game-changer,” Smriti Mandhana expressed while reflecting on the match.
“I advised Shafali that we should approach our batting the same way as in the first innings – nothing extraordinary, just trust our abilities and play according to the ball. It was unfortunate for her to get out right after hitting a four,” mentioned Shafali. Smriti Mandhana reminiscing about her conversation with Verma.
